Mezzo-soprano Laurel Semerdjian returns to Bellevue City Opera, having made her debut as Cherubino/ Le nozze di Figaro (2015). Ms. Semerdjian’s 2015-2016 season included Fenena/ Nabucco, Meg/ Little Women, Gertrude Stein/27, and Mother Goose/ The Rake’s Progress with The Pittsburgh Opera. She also sang the Alto Solo of Handel’s Messiah with the Santa Barbara Choral Society and Orchestra in March. Ms. Semerdjian was most recently praised for her “velvety mezzo-soprano voice” (Pittsburgh Tribune) and the “eye-popping

bawdiness” (Pittsburgh in the Round) she brought to the role of Mother Goose/The Rake’s Progress. Upcoming projects for Ms. Semerdjian include Tisbe/La Cenerentola with Syracuse Opera and Suzuki/ Madama Butterfly with Sarasota Opera. She will also be heard singing the Alto Solo of Saint-Saëns Oratorio de Noël with the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra under Maestro David Danzmayr. Last season Ms. Semerdjian performed the roles of Emilia/ Otello, Eduige/ Rodelinda, Asakir, Sumeida’s Song, and covered the role of Carmen/ Carmen with Pittsburgh Opera. Other past highlights include Julia Child/ Bon Appétit! with Tacoma Opera and Veronica/Dr. Miracle with Dallas Opera.
